St. Ann, Cranston

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence maintains and operates nine Catholic cemeteries under the division known as the Office of Catholic Cemeteries. The main office, located in Cranston adjacent to St. Ann Cemetery regulates and monitors the actions, burials, and services for all nine Catholic cemeteries.

Established in the 1850’s, St. Ann Cemetery is the most active cemetery in the Diocese of Providence. Located in the city of Cranston, St. Ann is situated on more than 191 totals acres, overlooking Randall, Dyer, and the Print Works Ponds.

Bishops Laid to Eternal Rest

The cemetery is the final resting place of four former bishops of Providence: Bishop Matthew Harkins, Bishop Thomas F. Doran, Bishop Dennis M. Lowney, and Bishop William A. Hickey.

Honoring Veterans

St. Ann Cemetery honors and buries wartime veterans who have served our nation faithfully. In recognition of the selfless service and great sacrifices of our wartime veterans, the Diocese of Providence’s Catholic Cemeteries provide one free grave for a veteran and their spouse upon death.

Over 147,000 burials in the history of St. Ann Cemetery, averaging 1,615 burials per year. With two new mausoleums currently under construction, St. Ann Cemetery provides a total of five mausoleums for the burial of the deceased. Crypts and niches for the burial of loved ones are now open upon the completion of these two new mausoleums. Contact St. Ann Office for questions and details. More than 1,900 grave units still remaining along with 64 acres of undeveloped land for the burial of the deceased.

St. Ann Cemetery maintains a rich tradition for family burial over the past century. Generations of families decide to bury their loved ones in the peaceful gates of St. Ann Cemetery. With the recent completion of the newly renovated chapels, St. Ann Cemetery holds committal services and Masses to remember the faithful departed.

The cemetery gates open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m.
